The physical glitches are piling up for Joel Embiid. The Sixers pivot gritted his teeth after his right thumb injury (torn ligament) contracted in Game 3 of the series against Toronto. But this time, the Sixers announced he was out indefinitely.
The reason ? A frontal bone fracture with a mild concussion. Joel Embiid pays a high price for Pascal Siakam’s nudge at the very end of the match in Game 6 on Thursday evening lost by Toronto. The injury is all the more frustrating for the Cameroonian pivot that the game was already played, since the Sixers led 119-90 when he was hit in the face, less than four minutes from the end of the meeting.
A similar precedent in 2018
In 2018, Joel Embiid suffered a similar injury, and it required surgery that sidelined him for three weeks. If the Philly star were to observe the same recovery time, it would be a huge blow two days before Game 1 of the conference semifinals between Philadelphia and Miami.
The interested party did not seem particularly shaken after the meeting Thursday evening. He even went to chat with his compatriot Pascal Siakam and hugged him before joining the locker room.
” I think he broke my face. I’m serious. I think he broke my face, but it’s the playoffs. Everything is fine he said after the game.
Will the warrior Embiid be able to help his team by trying to play through the pain? With a protective mask? For the moment, even if the person concerned is tough on evil, it clearly does not take the path since it is already announced package for the start of the series.
His injury will be assessed again in a week, and it will be decided there whether an operation is necessary.
