After its impressive show in the Pyrenees towards Hautacam on Thursday – and more generally since the start of this Tour de France – Wout van Aert finally had a little heavy legs this Friday on a 19th transition stage intended for sprinters. EBetween Castelnau-Magnoac and Cahors, the Belgian – already assured for a long time of winning the green jersey – has therefore put himself at the service of Christophe Laporte. And the Frenchman hit the mark beautifully by surprising a dull and disorganized peloton with a decisive acceleration under the red flame. As a finisher, the 29-year-old rider thus offers the 5th victory to his team Jumbo Visma on this Big loop. “His victory makes me very happy“, welcomed Wout van Aert after the line.

“Christophe Laporte does not know how strong he is”
“Christopher Laporte is new to the team this season but he is already a great friend, he did a lot for me on the Tour, but also in the spring. I didn’t feel very well today (Friday), so at the start of the stage I said to Christophe: “It’s your day, it’s for you. I’m taking care of keeping Jonas (Vingegaard) in head of the peloton, and you do the sprint”. And he did it, attacking as well. It’s crazy that he ends up like this. I’ve already told him several times, he doesn’t know how strong he is!“, rejoiced Wout van Aert, which then projected onto the remaining two stages. “Now there are two stages left, last year I won the time trial and the Champs-Elysées. That doesn’t mean I can still do it, but I can try. Anything to come will be a bonus“, he concluded.
