Nice tries a European champion if the Mandanda file does not move forward?

According to information from FootMercato, OGC Nice would be in the race to recover Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan. While Steve Mandanda was announced on the Côte d’Azur to replace Walter Benitez who left for PSV Eindoven, Nice would have activated other tracks in the event of failure on this track.

OGC Nice is looking for a new number one goalkeeper to replace Walter Benitez, who left free of any contract at PSV Eindoven. A difficult task for the Aiglon leaders who are losing a very strong goalkeeper, who has shone for the last five seasons with the Gym jersey. The Argentinian goalkeeper has even become one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 and will be hard to replace. While Christophe Galtier is announced at PSG in the coming weeks and Nice would be close to the return of Lucien Favre to the bench.

With the passage of the DNCG delayed, all files around OM are blocked for the moment, which would push interested clubs to activate other avenues. According FootMercato, OGC Nice would try to be loaned Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Chelsea goalkeeper who has not played too much since the arrival of Edouard Mendy. Bought for 80 million euros in the summer of 2018, Arrizabalaga had good seasons until he made mistakes that cost him his place. At 27, the Spanish goalkeeper must revive and find a club that will allow him to start in order to find the Spanish selection two years after his last.

Having finished 5th in Ligue 1, OGC Nice has qualified for the Europa League Conference and could welcome ambitious players. Even though Nice are a good club, Arrizabalaga’s arrival would be a setback for him, who was considered one of Spain’s greatest goalkeeper prospects. Trained at Athletic Bilbao, the Basque was followed by all the major European clubs including Real Madrid. It remains to be seen whether he would see a start in Nice with a good eye, he who would have seen, according to certain local media, Italian and Spanish clubs take an interest in his profile.

Nice still interested in Mandanda?

Since the first rumors have reported the 2018 world champion’s desire to leave, two have been particularly insistent, these are those sending him to OGC Nice but also to Stade Rennais. Already asked for information this winter, the Riviera club would still be interested and could take action this summer as soon as the DNCG has decided the fate of OM. If we are to believe the information of FootMercato, Julien Fournier, the sporting director of the Aiglons is still determined to bring in the player trained in Le Havre during this summer transfer window. While he did not say goodbye after the match against Strasbourg, the man with more than 450 Ligue 1 games could wait to have clarification on his Olympian situation before deciding to leave the ship.

Mandanda must not leave OM because the club needs him and because he is better than Pau Lopez – Larqué

Interviewed on RMC Sport, former AS Saint-Etienne player Jean Michel Larqué believes that Steve Mandanda should stay at Olympique de Marseille. According to him, the Olympian goalkeeper is much better than Pau Lopez and deserves to start at OM next season.

“Mandanda will make the choice he wants but Rennes is a bad choice. Yes it is an ambitious club and needs a goalkeeper but when I observe what is happening at OM with the goalkeepers, I simply have the impression that there is a starter and a substitute. There is clearly one goalkeeper who is better than the other, it’s Steve Mandanda. Steve Mandanda must not leave OM because the club needs him and because he is better than Pau Lopez. That’s why I think he would make a bad choice by leaving OM. It’s the best asset for them in goal. » Jean Michel Larque – Source: RMC Sport (10/06/2022)
