NASCAR’s Coca Cola 600 race car will pay tribute to the late Marine Dan McVicker

  • McVicker’s mother and sister will attend the Late Marine Memorial Run.
  • McVicker joined the Marines shortly after the September 11 attacks.

On Sunday, a deceased Alliance Marine will be among those honored at the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 race in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Driver Aric Almirola will race Smithfield Foods’ No. 10 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing, which will be named after the late Marine Lance Cpl. Daniel McVicker.

McVicker was killed on October 6, 2005, while leading a security detail on Operation River Gate near Al-Qa’im, Iraq, when his Humvee hit a roadside bomb .

He was 20 years old.

McVicker was specially selected for the No. 10 car by Stewart-Haas Racing account manager Deidre Snively. Snively grew up with McVicker and graduated with him from West Branch High School in 2003.
