MotoGP Catalonia Barcelona J2 Johann Zarco (Ducati / 4): “the potential to do 38.7 was there”

17th yesterday after the first day of practice for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia, Johann Zarco once again found himself in the parc fermé as the best independent rider after qualifying.

A leap forward which is explained above all by the fact that his best time in FP2 was not taken into account by the Race Direction, due to a yellow panel that unfortunately remained lit when there was no longer any danger of remaining and that a panel green meant the opposite on the other side.

The Pramac driver went to assert his rights with the authorities but the latter, although acknowledging their error, did not reinstate him in the 10th place he deserved.

In the end, it doesn’t matter since this morning in FP3 the Frenchman set the second fastest time, as a kind of message sent to the Race Direction, before positioning himself in 4th position during FP4 and then in qualifying.

After each session, Johann Zarco analyzes his own behavior with precision, and if ease on the bike is often the ultimate coveted objective, he also mentioned today an aspect that comes up relatively often: restraint, which he attributes mainly to his experience.

Johann Zarco “Anyway, I’m happy! Fourth place is very important for Sunday’s race. Qualifying was good. On the last lap I was expecting to be a little faster and I think the potential to do 38.7 (Aleix Espargaro and Francesco Bagnaia’s times) was there but I missed out on the last sector. The others were flying at the time but it’s good to be behind this fantastic top 3. We worked well this Saturday and I’m looking forward to what’s next. Either way, it’s going to be a long ride. We know Barcelona are special because of the low grip at the back that we have to deal with. It will be a rather long race but it’s a place that I really like. Friday was difficult but I made good progress in FP4 on Saturday and I think I have a good chance of having a solid race. »
