Rather discreet since its takeover by a Saudi investment fund last October, Newcastle will recruit Alexander Isak in the coming hours. To convince Real Sociedad to let go of the Swedish striker, the English club will pay 75 million euros.
Isak will sign Newcastle.
Everything comes not who knows how to wait. And Newcastle fans will have waited on this transfer window. But a week before it closed, the leaders of the Magpies finally decided to take out the checkbook.
After spending 40 million euros for Sven Botman (Lille), 17.5 million euros for Matt Targett (Aston Villa) and 11.5 million euros for Nick Pope (Burnley), the training led by Eddie Howe going to do a nice job.
A record transfer for both clubs
According to El Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad have accepted an offer from Newcastle for their centre-forward, Alexander Isak (22). This is estimated at 75 million euros, including 5 million euros in bonuses, with 10% on a future resale. A huge proposal, barely below the player’s release clause, fixed at 90 million euros, which very logically hit the mark. It is five times higher than the purchase price of the Swedes, under contract until June 2026.
Above all, the Basque club will complete the biggest sale in its history, far ahead of the departures of Alvaro Odriozola and Asier Illaramendi to Real Madrid or that of Inigo Martinez to Athletic Bilbao, all transferred for 32 million euros . For its part, Newcastle will also quite clearly beat its record purchase which dates back to the summer of 2019, with the arrival of Joelinton for 44 million euros (excluding bonuses) from Hoffenheim.
Isak will have to climb the slope
On paper, the arrival of Isak looks like a good deal. Powerful, very technical, the Scandinavian reminds his compatriot, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, of his debut at Ajax. He will nevertheless have to regain his efficiency since after a good 2020-2021 season with 17 goals in La Liga, the Nordic has largely dropped its foot during the last exercise (9 goals in 40 games). With this standard transfer on his shoulders, the player passed by Borussia Dortmund will have to show that he has very solid kidneys.
