Mercato: Dortmund looks to PSG and OM to replace Haller

Due to the possible long absence of Sbastien Haller, Borussia Dortmund are considering the recruitment of a new striker. The German press evokes an interest in two Ligue 1 players.

Dortmund are studying avenues to replace Haller

Borussia Dortmund finds itself facing an unexpected situation. Recruited this summer to make people forget Erling Hland, who left Manchester City, Sbastien Haller is suffering from a testicular tumor and could be out of action for several months. Which pushes the German club to consider recruiting a new striker.

At first, the BVB considered giving a chance to young Bradley Fink (19), present in the B team for six months. After reflection, the Ruhr club nevertheless decided to explore other avenues of experience. And two of them lead on the Ligue 1 side.

Icardi, undesirable at PSG

In search of a surface player, Dortmund has put the name of Mauro Icardi (29) on its shortlist, says Sky Sport Deutschland. The Parisian center-forward is on the market since Paris Saint-Germain does not want to keep a player who has just come out of a very disappointing season. Under contract until 2024, the former Inter Milan player only scored 5 goals in 30 appearances last season.

Problem, this file remains complex financially. The German club will probably not have the means to settle a transfer while offering a significant salary to the Argentinian, who receives 800,000 euros per month in Paris. The case therefore appears to be compromised. Unless PSG accepts a loan with payment of part of the player’s salary, but this is not currently the intention of the Parisian leaders.

Milik flat, but…

For its part, Sport1 evokes the name of Arkadiusz Milik (28 years old). As part of the Die Dortmund-Woche podcast, the editor-in-chief of the German media, Patrick Berger, revealed an interest from the Marsupials for the center forward of Olympique de Marseille. However, the Yellow and Black consider that this track is also very difficult to achieve.

Despite physical glitches and several stints on the bench, the Pole scored 20 goals in the Marseille jersey last season. President Pablo Longoria appreciates it and is in no hurry to see a player leave under contract until 2025. Even less as part of a loan, an option considered by the German vice-champion. A priori, the former Neapolitan is on track to stay in Marseille, where he wants to continue his adventure and play in the Champions League.

Other tracks studied

To replace Haller, the German press evokes other names, such as Krzysztof Piatek (Hertha Berlin), Jhon Cordoba (Krasnodar), Edin Dzeko (Inter) or even Edinson Cavani (free). For the moment, Dortmund have not made any final decision and are awaiting a diagnosis for Haller which could fall within the week. The BVB obviously hope that the former Ajax Amsterdam striker will recover quickly and that a recruitment will not be necessary.
