The war between London and Barcelona over our former Girondins seemed to be turning in favor of Chelsea, but now Barcelona seem to be regaining control.
An agreement in principle reached
Gerard Romero, a specialist journalist for FC Barcelona, was the first to announce contacts between Barça and the player. Today he revealed the two clubs have an agreement in principle over Jules Koundé. Recall that the defender had promised Xavi to reject all other offers reaching him.
Chelsea had submitted an offer a few days ago for €65m, with a 5-year contract according to another journalist, Fabrizio Romano. The Blues were hoping to secure the player’s deal, which was pressured by Sevilla sporting director Monchi.
According to the journalist dedicated to FC Barcelona, the operation would be completed at 99%, and according to trends, our former Girondins, should play one more season in La Liga, but this time, with the Barça jersey.
Good news for the Girondins
Beyond having a feeling of pride to see a player trained in the Girondins commit to big clubs like Barcelona, or even Chelsea, or even Real Madrid for Aurélien Tchouaméni, Bordeaux will be a winner financially.
Barcelona are expected to make a similar or better offer than Chelsea (€65m) to Sevilla. Knowing that Bordeaux sold their defender to Seville for €25m in 2019, and included a 20% capital gain on resale, the Aquitaine club will not be far from pocketing around €8m.
