Kombouaré does not intend to make “no gift” to Saint-Etienne

Before the last day of Ligue 1 between Nantes and Saint-Etienne, which will be decisive for the Greens in view of their maintenance, Antoine Kombouaré has already warned that he will do everything with his team to win.

Already winner of the Coupe de France, Nantes has the assurance next season of competing in the Europa League. Beaten during their trip to Lyon (3-2) this Saturday, in a match counting for the 37th day of Ligue 1, the Canaries will therefore finish ninth in Ligue 1 at best. Antoine Kombouaré and his men must now punctuate the exercise by course with the reception of Saint-Etienne.

The meeting will be especially decisive for ASSE, which is fighting for its maintenance and which will need a victory. If he liked the “face and behavior” of his revamped team this Saturday, due to several physical problems, Antoine Kombouaré does not intend to finish the season in freewheel. “We are going to try to catch up with the reception of Saint-Etienne, by having a big party all together with our supporters. I am not playing to send people to Ligue 2 but to win matches, warned the technician. they have to keep winning, they will have had a great game.”

“We needed nobody’s help last season”

“We won’t give a gift. I’ve never been given a gift in life so we’re going to play the match with the utmost seriousness with the ambition of winning for ourselves first. Afterwards, if our success sends Saint -Etienne in Ligue 2, too bad for them, that’s life, added Kombouaré. We don’t ask anything from the others, we’ll get our results.”

Antoine Kombouaré is well aware of the stress of a possible descent into Ligue 2, he who went through the dam last season with Nantes. He had also saved Dijon from a descent in 2019, passing through this same dam. Currently 19th, ASSE will be condemned to the descent in the event of defeat and could, depending on the result of Metz, regain 18th place with success.

“We almost went to Ligue 2 last season, we did everything to maintain ourselves and we needed nobody’s help. We fought with our means”, returned Kombouaré on this episode, he who had recovered the club during the season, replacing Raymond Domenech.
