It is confirmed: the Tour de France should well desert the Champs-Elysées to end in Nice in 2024

The information remained to be confirmed and it has just taken on thickness. Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Minister of Sports indicated this Tuesday morning, with our colleagues from France Info, that the arrival of the Tour de France in 2024 “will be a little early and probably won’t happen in Paris”as usual, on the Champs-Elysées, but “rather in Nice”.

This decision, rumored in early June by the Gazzetta dello Sport, is motivated by the Paris Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, just a few days after the arrival of the Grande Boucle. Also, this relocation should make it possible to avoid the “dispersal of the security forces” which will be focused on securing the Olympic Games and in particular the mobile and outdoor opening ceremony.

Nice had already hosted the Grand Départ in 2020

Contacted by AFP, the town hall of Nice “does not confirm anything at this time”. “It’s a working hypothesis among others”, nuanced a source close to the executive. At the beginning of June, in response to information from the transalpine sports daily, Christian Estrosi indicated in our columns: “To date, we have not confirmed anything. However, if the Tour de France were to seek a host city for the finish, we are obviously ready to work on the organization with ASO, historical partner of the city of Nice. .”

“We have excellent relations with the city of Nice, which has been very solid in 2020 (when the Tour was postponed to September due to the pandemic)”for his part told AFP the director of the Tour Christian Prudhomme. “We are discussing a number of things with the town hall of Nice”he added without further details.
