Should the nationality of those arrested during the excesses that occurred on the evening of the Champions League final be revealed? Gérald Darmanin opposes it but, according to a CSA poll for CNEWS published this Friday, June 3, the French are in favor of it at 61%.
“I don’t have to give the nationality of the people we are questioning,” Gérald Darmanin said Wednesday, before the Senate law commission. This exit of the Minister of the Interior, then questioned about the incidents at the Stade de France, aroused many reactions.
According to a survey by the CSA Institute for CNEWS, unveiled this Friday, June 3, 61% of French people do not agree with the Minister of the Interior and are in favor of revealing the nationality of those arrested that evening. .
Among those questioned, 37% frankly support this idea since they say they are “completely for”. The remaining 24% opted for a more measured “rather for”. In the opposite camp, the “totally against” (18%) and the “rather against” (20%) are almost equivalent. It should be noted that 1% of respondents chose “not to comment”.
Men are more keen than women for the nationality of those arrested at the Stade de France to be revealed, at 66% against 57%. The frank “yes” is also very present among his gentlemen, with 45% of “totally for”.
Adherence to such a measure also seems to increase with age, since the greatest number of “for” is recorded among those aged 65 and over, at 68%. That is 11 points more than among those under 35 who say they are still in favor of revealing the nationality of those arrested at 57%.
The question divides the most among 18-24 year olds, at 48% for and 52% against. Their hesitation on the question is illustrated by the almost equal share of clear-cut and nuanced answers, in each of the camps. 27% say they are “totally for” and 21% “rather for”, just as the “totally against” (24%) are barely less numerous than the “rather against” (28%).
Perfect balance at LFI
The political color is quite decisive since, unsurprisingly, the number of “for” soars on the right. It is particularly overwhelming at Reconquest, the party of Eric Zemmour, which recorded 79% of favorable responses, including 74% of “totally for”. Next come Les Républicains and then the Rassemblement national, respectively in favor of 77% and 67%.
Overall, the “for” also wins in the center, at 63% for LREM, the party of the presidential majority, as well as on the left (54%). Note all the same, the perfect balance of insubordinate France (LFI) which records 50% “for” and 50% “against”.
As a reminder, the Champions League final, which pitted Liverpool against Real Madrid on Saturday May 28 at the Stade de France, was marred by incidents. Beyond massive counterfeit ticket fraud and the blocking of certain supporters in good standing, prevented from entering the Stade de France grounds, assaults and thefts have also been reported, in particular against English supporters and Spaniards.
Survey carried out by self-administered online questionnaire, from June 2 to 3, 2022, among a representative national sample of 1,011 people aged 18 and over, according to the quota method based on the criteria of sex, age, socio-professional category, region and urban area category.
