During his long interview in “Rothen ignites” on Wednesday on RMC, Bruno Genesio defended his record at OL and Rennes, while sending a small spade to OM.
It’s a small spade slipped into the heart of a long plea. Guest of the program “Rothen ignites” this Wednesday on RMC, Bruno Genesio was able to defend his balance sheet and respond to the criticisms leveled against him by our consultant Jérôme Rothen.

“I have not heard the same criticisms”
The Stade Rennais coach especially regretted the negative image that some observers were able to give him during his time on the OL bench between 2015 and 2019. “I can be criticized for my choices or my changes, but this what bothers me is the image that was stuck on me from the start without any valid argument, that is to say ‘Genesio is the nice coach who is friends with the players, who can manage young people but who can’t manage Memphis or Nabil (Fekir).’ For three years I managed these players”, he explained.
Before addressing, in one sentence, a sliding tackle to OM: “We made three Champions League and one Europa League semi-final where we were eliminated by Ajax (in 2017) I was smashed because Ajax had a lower budget than Lyon at the time. It seems to me that there is a French club (Marseille) which was eliminated not long ago by Feyenoord and I haven’t heard the same criticism.”
While they were aiming for the final victory, the Marseillais of Jorge Sampaoli were actually released this season at the stage of the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, the new competition imagined by UEFA. Beaten in the first leg in the Netherlands (3-2), they conceded a draw (0-0) synonymous with elimination in the return match at the Vélodrome. In the league, however, Marseille finished second in the standings, two places ahead of Stade Rennais.
