Technical details of the Red Bull Racing RB19

As Red Bull Racing readies the RB19 for action in Miami we get a glimpse of what is happening under the brake drum, with the caliper left exposed we can see the tube fins used to help keep the things cool and allowed the team to put on some weight. Also noteworthy is the brake disc fairing, which has been enlarged compared to last season’s design.

The brake assembly with the caliper shroud in place shows how the team is looking to manage the heat dissipated by the various components.

Looking further down the side of the A523 we can also see the trench that was cut into the top surface of the sidepods as the team opted for more cooling in Miami with the interchangeable engine cowl panel loaded with provide it.

Ferrari also used a brake disc shroud this season, which necessitated a change of course with regard to the position of the caliper. As part of this reorganization, the fairing which encloses the caliper and the piping which delivers fresh air from the intake have also been redesigned.

For comparison, here’s the assembly without the caliper fairing blanking cover in place, allowing us to see the drill pattern in the disc and how sandwiched it is in the track.

Alfa Romeo has continued with a similar arrangement to that used in 2021, with the crescent-shaped disc shroud wrapped around the front section of the assembly, while the caliper sits towards the rear.

At the rear of the car, the team fitted a low downforce rear wing setup, along with a solo lower beam wing element, as was their choice when looking to reduce the downforce and drag.
