Present alongside Wendie Renard and Maxence Caqueret for the formalization of their extension, Jean-Michel Aulas then swept the news from OL. The president notably dwelt on the contours of the workforce for next season.
He had already prepared the ground on Tuesday with an open letter intended for the supporters but Jean-Michel Aulas wanted to refine his remarks to the press on Wednesday. On the sidelines of Wendie’s contract extensions Fox and Maxentius Caqueretthe Lyon president was once again very talkative alongside Bruno Cheyrou and vincent Ponsot. Future investors upon receipt of Nantes, Saturday, all the news from OL was scrutinized but it was towards the future season that most eyes were turned. The day after his open letter and his stated desire to rely on the Academy, Aulas took the example of Maxence Caqueret to illustrate his remarks.
“When there are difficulties, you have to go back to the basics and rely on what OL know how to do. The young people have confirmed this season like Malo tasteCastello Lukeba, noted the president. Today, the fact that Maxence extends shows that there was a mutual desire. We wanted to make it the focal point of the local DNA. With the Gambardella, there has been the emergence of certain players who are already pros.”
Cheyrou: “Recreating a balanced workforce”
The possibility of reviewing a Lyon formation made up largely of local players is therefore no longer utopian. The club and Vincent Ponsotdirector of football, say it loud and clear, the group for next season and future years must “Building on this foundation that is training. We want to rediscover this attachment to the club and which leads to performance, relying on our young people who have a lot of maturity.” In this off-season which promises to be hot between the Rhône and the Saône, there will be many movements in one direction or the other. Having drawn up a roadmap, the trio of leaders has already been busy behind the scenes with, in particular, “discussions that continue for Lacazette for whom the club is ready to compromise” in order to give a balanced squad to Peter Bosch.
“We are already imagining the near future and a number of initiatives have been taken. We had a meeting at noon on recruitment, continued Jean-Michel Aulas. There will be departures and arrivals with OL taking risks. We want to start again on very ambitious bases, so it requires departures and arrivals.”
Lacazette remains a goal
At OL, a big sweep is being prepared in the workforce with in particular players who will be at the end of their contract in a year. A situation that the club has already anticipated, according to the president, with “some extensions are being considered and others not because the players have decided to leave and we have already received offers.” Among those in discussion is the extension of Rayan Cherki. Injured, the player still has not extended but after Caqueret, OL would like to do a double blow with their sidekick. A meeting was also held with the player’s parents on Tuesday, and the two parties should meet again in a week, with finally an agreement in the end? In its search for OL DNA, the club is targeting it more than ever.
