Alonso sets new F1 record

Like his team-mate Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso also had a good Sunday at the French Grand Prix for Alpine’s home race.

Fernando Alonso offered himself a seventh-place finish in the points on Sunday at Paul-Ricard, thanks in particular to an overtaking on the first lap on the McLaren of Lando Norris, which proved decisive in his quest for sixth place.

“I’m happy with our race today.commented the Alpine driver at the end of the Grand Prix held yesterday. We did the job, managing the pace and the tires well. We had to work on various points to perfect the balance of the car this weekend, but we finished just behind the top five, a sign that we had a very solid race, while increasing our points capital. »

“I had a good start going up to fifth place, but then we fell to sixth, which was probably our fair position today in the race. We have proven that when we go through a clean weekend like this, we can finish in the top six. I hope we can maintain this level of consistency in the second half of the season and keep the momentum going. »

At the end of this French Grand Prix, Alonso also grabbed a new Formula 1 record, that of the greatest number of laps completed: 18,672!
