AC Ajaccio beats Toulouse and goes back to Ligue 1, Quevilly-Rouen will play for its survival in the play-offs against Villefranche

End clap for the 2021-2022 Ligue 2 season. The current exercise of the second level of French football indeed ended this Saturday evening with the traditional multiplex of the 38th day. If Toulouse FC were already champions and promoted to Ligue 1, and Paris FC and Sochaux had secured their place in the play-offs, there was still a big stake between AC Ajaccio, second, and AJ Auxerre, third, to the last direct ticket to the elite. The Corsican club simply received the Toulouse champion when AJA welcomed Amiens SC to the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps.

In this long-awaited distance duel, the Acéistes struck first in front of their audience at the Stade François Coty with a penalty from Nouri (28th, 1-0). Not necessarily warned but forced to win, the Auxerrois responded in their match through Hein (33rd, 1-0). The classification therefore did not change and the ACA remained second with one point more than the AJA. A Toulouse goal in Corsica could change everything as Charbonnier doubled the lead for Auxerre (63rd, 2-0) but the scoreboard was no longer moving on the Isle of Beauty. AC Ajaccio, thanks to this short success, thus finished second in L2 and will therefore see Ligue 1 in 2022-23, while Auxerre, which finally won 2-1, will go through the play-offs for the climb.

Rodez narrowly escapes

For these play-offs, AJ Auxerre will be accompanied as planned by Paris FC and Sochaux. Fourth, the Ile-de-France team retained its place by beating Grenoble 2-0. The Montbelliards, they thought to end this regular season with a success against Dijon but the DFCO, led 2-0, managed to come back thanks to Le Bihan and Philippoteaux (2-2). A complicated end to the season for the FCSM after its defeat against Valenciennes last weekend.

At the bottom of the table, we were waiting to know the name of the eighteenth and therefore play-off, who will face Villefranche in an ultra decisive double confrontation. Winner 3-1 of Dunkirk, Quevilly-Rouen failed to overtake Rodez, who for his part did the job against Caen (2-0) to stay seventeenth and save himself from very little …
