Eager to leave the Girondins de Bordeaux, Benoît Costil was announced close to his training club, SM Caen. The French porter should finally make his return to Brittany.
A difficult season for Benoît Costil. Relayed to the position of number 2 with the rise of Gaëtan Poussin, the goalkeeper went through hell for his fifth season in the colors of the Girondins. A failed season on the one hand individually but also collectively after the descent of the Girondins in Ligue 2.
The goalkeeper, then at the end of his contract this summer, inevitably seemed to be leaving. The club confirmed it last night. The question now is where the tricolor goalkeeper will now bounce.
A return to basics on the side of SM Caen was therefore considered for Costil. However. According to the SportàCaen media, the porter and the Normandy management did not agree on the terms of the contract.
The player, however, completed his entire junior career with the club before tasting the elite and the professional world with his training club from 2005 to 2009. A love for the club that was obviously not enough. The goalkeeper would ultimately like to continue his career in Ligue 1.
A return to Brittany envisaged?
The track now most likely would be in Brittany, a region that the goalkeeper knows well. Benoît Costil played at Stade Rennais for six seasons from 2011 to 2017.
Only here, according to Le10Sport, it is on the side of another Breton club that the player would be ready to sign. In effect, FC Lorient would follow the situation of the goalkeeper closely.
After seeking to bolster his defense with the arrival of Gideon Kalulu24 years old and the Darlin Yongwa track studied for the position of left defender, it is in the position of goalkeeper that the Hakes are now looking to strengthen themselves.
The club has actually never been able to have a clear hierarchy in this position. The two Lorient goalkeepers have shared almost the same number of games in Ligue 1 this season. Paul Nardi played 22. Matthieu Dreyer played 16. Worse, neither of them finally convinced the Lorient leaders.
So the club wants to secure the services of an experienced goalkeeper who can play as number 1. At 34, Benoît Costil could perfectly take on this role. It now remains to agree on the terms of a future contract.
After 5 seasons in Navy and White, Benoît Costil leaves the Girondins.
The Club thanks him and wishes him the best for the rest of his career ????????
